What is Gemau Cymru?

Gemau Cymru is a multi sport event for the young athletes of Wales. This year it will be held on the weekend of 5-7 July 2013 in different locations around Cardiff.  It captures the inspiration of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and will deliver a lasting sports legacy for Wales.

Gemau Cymru showcases various competitive elements.  All sports will be structured and managed via a close partnership with the relevant Governing Bodies, they will advise on the selection process, structure of the event and the age of competitors.

Wales’ capital is the ideal setting for Gemau Cymru with its exceptional facilities that will give the young athletes a fantastic platform to showcase their talent.

Join us and see the BEST of Welsh youth talent – indeed these are the athletes that will represent Wales in future Olympics.

Athletes are invited to compete in Gemau Cymru following the selection process advised by the national governing bodies.  Each athlete will receive a Gemau Cymru invitation pack which will include all the relevant information.

Gemau Cymru is an opportunity for the public to see for themselves how Welsh sport and Welsh athletes benefit from the 2012 Olympic Games legacy.

The Urdd has considerable experience in staging major events and in agreeing to deliver Gemau Cymru the Urdd recognizes the invaluable opportunities they will bring to the young people of Wales.  The Urdd are confident that Gemau Cymru will become an established and successful competition in the Welsh Sporting calendar and will continue to be a major part of the Urdd sport strategy for many years to come.

Gemau Cymru is a partnership between the private, public and third sector.
