Gemau Cymru requires a number of volunteers in various roles to ensure the smooth running of the event.
We try to ensure that volunteers are recruited to their preferred role; however this will not always be possible.
Gemau Cymru is a bilingual event, therefore both Welsh speaking and non-Welsh speaking volunteers are welcome to register. However we will try to place our bilingual volunteers in direct contact with competitors, the media and the spectators.
This year we have created four different roles for volunteers:
Volunteers that deal directly with the competition such as….
- Scorers – Netball
- Timekeepers – Swimming and Triathlon
- Pitch Assistants – Football and Rugby
- Team Assistants – Football
- Referees – Triathlon
- Marshalls – Swimming and Triathlon
- Results Assistant – Gymnastics, Swimming and Rugby
- Game Coordinator - Football
This role will also include the following duties:
- Assist with distributing results around the location
- Assist with medal ceremonies
- Support National Governing Bodies to ensure that the competition runs smoothly
- Assist with clearing the playing area at the end of the competition
These shifts will be dependant on the time of the competition who you are working at. As a result your start time will be later than other roles.
Volunteers may need to complete further training in addition to the training day, to ensure they are able to complete their duties effectively.
Volunteers that are responsible for adminitrative elements of the competition such as….
- Registering competitors
- Registering cameras
- Programme selling
- Stewarding (different to marshalling)
- Preparing the site/playing area before the competition
- Parking and leading competitors and spectators
These shifts will not be depedant on the start time of the competition. As a result, start times will be before the start of the competition.
Volunteers responsible for collecting information. Duties:
- Assist the media manager in preparing news stories.
- Working with the media/marketing uploading stories on Twitter, Facebook and Gemau Cymru website
- Holding interviews with successful competitors
These shifts are dependant on the time of the competition you will be working in. As a result, your start time is likely to be later than other roles.
Assisting with collecting and distributing branding between competition locations. Volunteers will travel, in a Gemau Cymru van, from one location to the other to distribute equipment and marketing material for the competitions.
Shifts will vary from Thursday to Sunday, starting in the afternoon and working through the evening.
All volunteers will receive specific and detailed training to ensure they are confident in their role throughout the event. Please click on the training tab for more information.
