Shanelle Edwards, 18, Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg, Cardiff City FC

2. Your aspiration?

My desire this year, is to be chosen to represent Wales in the UEFA Under 19 tournament.

3. Who has been your greatest influence?
In terms of football, Thierry Henry has influenced me, but my Mother had the greatest influence on me.

 4. Any pre competition rituals?
At eight years old I wanted to be a footballer.

5. When and why did you start your sport?

I started playing at the age of eight 

6. Why is an event like Gemau Cymru important?

To increase the number of women playing football.

7. Greatest achievement to date

I would count going to Greece with the first women’s team - as that was by aspiration.

Alice Evans, 18, Aberystwyth, Ysgol Uwchradd Llanfair Y Muallt, Cardiff City Ladies FC

2. Your aspiration?

To represent Wales at the highest possible level and to start with the first team.

3. Who has been your greatest influence?

My brother, because he always has supported and admired me, and this has inspired me to be the best player I can be in order for him to be proud of me.

4. Any pre competition rituals? 

No 

5. When and why did you start your sport?

I started in primary school during break and lunch with the boys in my class.

6. Why is an event like Gemau Cymru important?

It is a great opportunity for the children to showcase their talent and compete against others, it can also show them that they can succeed in their chosen sport if they work hard enough.

7. Greatest achievement to date?

Starting recently in the under 19 games and also getting to go to Greece with the senior squad.

 


Selection Process:

 

  • Teams are invited to register for Gemau Cymru via Carrie Slack (carrie.slack@welshfootballtrust.org.uk).
  • Registrations will open on Monday 29th April and close on Friday 31st May 2013.
  • Age groups – Under 12, U14 and U16.
  • Games will be played on a 7v7 format.
  • Eligibility – Must be an FAW affiliated club and team and playing in one of the following girls leagues. First for four teams from each league to register their interest will be successful:  
  • South Wales Girls League
  • West Wales Girls League
  • North Wales Girls League
  • Pembrokeshire Girls League
  • Powys Girls League
