Boccia

Boccia will not be showcased during the 2013 Gemau Cymru but we hope to see its return in Gemau Cymru 2014. We will be working closely with Disability Sport Wales by offering opportunities through the Swimming and Table Tennis events.

"Disability Sport Wales congratulates the Urdd for creating an event where each individual at secondary schools level can take part.  For Disability Sport it is important that disabled children have the same opportunities as their able peers. Disability sport in Wales is strong - 25% of the British team that won gold medals at the Beijing 2008 Paralympics were Welsh. Hopefully this legacy will ensure that Gemau Cymru will be competitive and talents can be developed in our Academy programme. Good luck to everyone at Gemau Cymru"

Ambassador: Aled Siôn Davies

“I was born with hemi-hemilia of the right leg, affecting me from the hip down. This has caused deform ity of the lower limb consisting of only one bone in the foot meaning no articulation and severe deformity.

I began my rise in sport in 2006 where I attained a Bronze and Gold in the IWAS Junior World Championships.  Since 2006 I have competed in the junior worlds and I am the five time defending junior world champion and junior world record holder.

I have recently done the transition into the senior event where I was selected for the IPC World Athletics Championship in New Zealand.  I have recently returned with Silver in the discus and just missed out on a Bronze in the shot finishing fourth. I am a full-time athlete now chasing my dream of Gold in London 2012”
