MAGNOX BOOST FOR URDD NATIONAL EISTEDDFOD, 2012
Today (Monday, 26 March) Urdd Gobaith Cymru is unveiling details of a major new sponsor of the Urdd National Eisteddfod, Eryri (Snowdonia) 2012. Magnox Ltd, the management and operations contractor for Trawsfynydd and Wylfa Nuclear sites has pledged its support to the Urdd Eisteddfod which will be held in Glynllifon near Caernarfon between 4 and 9 June.
Magnox will sponsor the Welsh learners and literature pavilion on the Maes (Eisteddfod festival site) as well as the day’s events at the Eisteddfod on Tuesday, 5 June. The pavilion – called Y Cwtsh Cymraeg – is a hub for language and literature events and will feature a packed and varied timetable of workshops, question and answer sessions with some of Wales’ leading authors and writing symposiums aimed at children and young people.
“It gives me great pleasure to announce that Magnox will be one of the main sponsors of this year’s Urdd National Eisteddfod,” said Aled Siôn, Director of the Urdd National Eisteddfod. “Y Cwtsh Cymraeg is one of the Eisteddfod’s most recent additions and is fast earning a reputation for its diverse, interesting and above all fun programme of events aimed at children and young people of all ages. Magnox’s support will enable us to build on the recent success and provide a greater platform for children and young people to meet and become inspired by some of Wales’ foremost authors and poets.
“Sponsorship and support from local companies and organisations is vital to the success of the Urdd Eisteddfod. Their support enables the Urdd to offer a wide range of opportunities to local children and young people to take part and take advantage of this unique festival to help grow their skills. Put simply, the Eisteddfod would not be the melting pot of experiences it is today without their support and we’re very grateful to Magnox for this sponsorship,” he added.
Dave Wilson, Trawsfynydd Site Director, said: “The partnership between the Urdd Eisteddfod and Magnox builds on the company’s strong track record in North West Wales of supporting communities and helping local people to learn new skills and experience new opportunities. Sponsorship money to support the Eisteddfod has come from the new Magnox Socio-economic scheme which is funded and supported by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and EnergySolutions in partnership with Magnox Limited.
The Urdd Eisteddfod is a platform for children and young people to grow in confidence as well as gain new skills and we’re delighted to be part of such an exciting community event. ”
