URDD YOUTH THEATRE COMPANY
Are you between Year 10 and 19 years of age?
Are you interested in the performing arts?
The Urdd is offering an unique opportunity for young people to be part of the Urdd Theatre Company. It is a three year project which will run on a regional level (North, Mid and South Wales) for the first two years and then on a national leave to perform a large scale production during the 2012 Urdd National Eisteddfod in Eryri.
The Theatre Company will offer unique performing experiences and also an opportunity to learn and develop new skills and techniques, thus creating new and contemporary theatre work.
Skills will include:
· Conventional acting skills which include text interpretation and in particular, preparing the performer mentally, vocally and physically
· Physical Theatre and stage presence
· Chorus work
· The ‘multilateral’ performer with emphasis given on the need for young actors to master a range of styles
· circus, mime and mask work
· use of live music on stage – vocal and instrumental
· use of contemporary techniques (such as parkour and mixing music) to create drama and theatre.
· Use of new media and digital techniques as part of a performance.
We aim to create a new, contemporary and exciting theatre – a theatre that belongs to the members.
Emphasis will be given on developing the member’s ideas and enable them to engage and participate in various ways …We need your ideas and skills!
The Company Artistic Director is Jeremy Turner and a team of creative practitioners will be running each region.
This year the focus will be on 3 residential courses held during July, one in each region. Work will begin on developing new skills and ways to merge various styles of performing.
In 2011 the company will continue with the training process and work towards various performances. These will be performed regionally as well as to fellow members in all three regions, thus giving the members the opportunity to begin discussing ideas and their work and work together towards 2012.
